Instead of a usual article, I’d like to just share with you a few quotes on encouragement that I like; and I hope you like them—Charles

One of the highest human duties is the duty of encouragement. It is easy to laugh at men’s ideals; it is easy to pour cold water on their enthusiasm; it is easy to discourage others. The world is full of discouragers. We have a Christian duty to encourage one another. Many a time a word of praise or thanks or appreciation or cheer has kept a man on his feet. Blessed is the man who speaks such a word.” —William Barclay

“Encourage one another daily.”

 (Hebrews 3:13)

O let me shed a little light

On someone’s path I pray.

I’d like to be a messenger

Of happiness today!

It may be just a phone call,

A smile, or a prayer,

Or long neglected letter

Would lift the edge of care.

I want to spread some happiness

In what I say or do,

Make life a little sweeter

For someone else! Don’t You?

                                             —Alice Mortenson

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up….”

(I Thessalonians 5:11)

I’d rather have one little rose

From the garden of a friend

Than to have the choicest flowers

When my stay on earth must end.

I would rather have a pleasant word

In kindness said to me

Than flattery when my heart is still,

And life has ceased to be.

I would rather have a loving smile

From friends I know are true

Than tears shed ‘round my casket

When to this world I bid adieu.

Bring me all your flowers today,

Whether pink, or white, or red;

I’d rather have one blossom now

Than a truckload when I’m dead.”
