Celebrating The American Dream

We’re gathered here this afternoon to celebrate the birth of our nation...

To celebrate...

• Our FREEDOM...

• our independence from FOREIGN rule.

As a nation… Our declaration of independence was signed into law on July 4th1776.

Perhaps the most recognizable and meaningful words of this document are to be found in the second paragraph... We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal... And endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights... Among these are... Life...Liberty... And the pursuit of happiness.

This document spoke of two kinds of rights…

• Inalienable Rights… Those we are born with...

• Political Rights… Those guaranteed by our government.

Political Rights are found in and protected by our Bill of Rights…

Things like…

• The right to assemble in religious freedom…

• Our freedom of speech…

• The right to bear arms…

• The right to own property…

• The right to a speedy and impartial trial before our peers.

Our…Independence…Our Rights… Our freedom and liberties… That we enjoy today DID not come free…. They were passed down to us at great cost.

• Those who signed the Independence Document did so at great cost

• Then the protection of our freedom has not been free.

The United States has suffered almost three million causalities of war in our history…. With close to a million and a half… 1,357,000 in deaths… Protecting our freedom.

Tonight…We’re here to honor these men and women of war…

To honor those currently serving in our military and law enforcement…

Protecting us… Keeping us free.

Listen to me church... I know that many of us... If not most of us are somewhat disillusioned with...

• our governmental officials...

• With our POlitiCIans...

But I must tell you... The American Dream of freedom... Liberty...and justice for all... Is still very much alive in our world.

Millions...If not billions... Of folk would give all they had to be Americans... To be able to live the dream that we live every day...

And here it is... We must not take our freedom for granted... We must do all we can to keep the America Dream alive... Amen?

We’re gathered here… Not only to celebrate our independence… Honor those who serve… But we’re here to pledge our allegiance to…

• Our country…

• Its constitution…

• To uphold the principles on which it was founded.

But for us in this assembly… We have a freedom that’s far beyond our patriotism… A freedom far beyond what any governmental agency or authority could possible give.

We’re here to celebrate our freedom in Christ…

Freedom from… Sin… Guilt… Freedom from eternal destruction.

Listen to Paul from Romans chapter eight... Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life has set us free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be our sin offering.

And it was Jesus who said... When the son set you free... You are free indeed.

So... We come here this evening to celebrate our freedom in Jesus... Amen?

Can I say this… And you not be upset with me…

We must never… We must never… make…

• Our country…

• Our Constitution…

• Our... Freedom… Rights… Liberties…

• Our Patriotism…

• Our American way of life…

idols to be worshiped… Only God is worthy of worship.

Only our God promised freedoms are… ABSOLUTE... eternal... and can never be taken from us... Praise him tonight!!... Amen?

Church…There is a distinct difference between Americanism and Christianity.

We can be God’s people in any culture… Under any form of government.

But… But tonight…Let us be eternally thankful that those of us gathered here… Have been and are a special generation who have been blessed to live for Jesus in the United States of America… Amen.

Here’s what I want us to do...

As Lance leads us in these songs...

I want us to remember the blessings we have in Jesus...

And the blessingS we have in being americans

After the songs… Aaron Sloan will lead us as...

We’ll pledge our ALLEGIANCE to our country

Then…We ask Tom Verkler to end our devotional with a prayer

First and last verses of the following...

Love lifted me

There’s power in the blood

i am thine o lord

Battle Hymn of the Republic

America the beautiful
