Be Sober, Be Vigilant

1 Peter 5:8 tells us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, is a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”  The devil is roaming about the earth looking for those that are weak in their faith.  So we must keep ourselves strong and not give the devil a foothold: "Do not give the devil a foothold" (Ephesians 4.27 NIV).

We are told to be sober. This means that we are to be able to recognize the devil’s schemes. We also need to be vigilant which means that we are ready for action when we see some of the devil’s schemes come about. We must not allow the lusts of the world to lure us into compromising situations.

The devil is out there walking around and seeking, so this means that we are to always be watching as well. The devil does not take a break and so as a result we must not take a break either. We must continue to do the things that will help us keep our faith strong. We must study the Word so much so that it becomes a part of us. We must also be in prayer to the ONE that gives us strength: "I can do everything through him who gives me strength."  (Philippians  4.13).

Then of course there is the assembly that we are to attend regularly so that we can be built up by fellowship with those who struggle as well and be reminded of JESUS and what HE has given for us in this fight.

The last thing is that we must live for HIM and no one else.

  Be sober!  Be vigilant!
